F R A Dinner

F R A Dinner F R A Dinner

The Wharfedale Harriers ladies had a lot of reasons to celebrate at the annual Fell Runners Association Presentation Evening – which took place on Saturday night – at the Pennine Manor Hotel, Huddersfield.

Gill Myers performed fantastically in 2011 to retain her English LV50 Championship title. Gill scored maximum points after wins at Whittle Pike (short race), Loughrigg - Silver Howe (Medium race), Sedbergh Hills and Duddon Valley (long races). Gill also finished 3rd in the LV45 Championships and 15th overall. This is only Gill’s second season of taking part in these championships.

Judy Howells has had a brilliant year and won her first individual medal – which was bronze in the British LV40 championships. The British championships incorporates races in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Judy was also 7th in the British Ladies Championships overall.

Tamara Hemsley also received a prize for 3rd lady in the Lakeland Classics Championships after competing well at Duddon Valley, Borrowdale and the Three Shires fell races.

The Wharfedale Ladies team won bronze medals in the English Ladies team championships with Gill Myers, Tamara Hemsley, Judy Howells, Cathy Bradley and Rachel Hill all running strongly to count for the team which consists of the first 3 ladies finishing for the club across short, medium and long distance races which have taken place throughout the year. This is the first time the Wharfedale ladies have won a team medal the English Championships.

To top it all off the Wharfedale Harriers Ladies also won bronze medals in the English LV40 team championships with Gill Myers, Judy Howells, Rachel Hill, Madeleine Watson, Caroline Pollard and Val Done all performing well to count for the team and receive their medals.

Pre-Christmas Social Run & Supper - 7 December 2011

As regular Wednesday off road runners will be aware, the first Wednesday in December for the past four years has been the Pre-Christmas Social Run from Higher Stone Gappe, Lothersdale. Pat & Graham Wadsworth will be once again hosting this event and the run will be led out by Sam Wadsworth. To mitigate some of the cost, there will be a nominal charge of £2.50 for adults and £1.00 for children. This year there will not be a vegetarian option.

To get some idea of numbers, it would be helpful, if you would like to come, if you could email Graham Wadsworth or telephone 07976 794749

As always, runners who are currently injured are still welcome for supper. Start time for the run will be 7:00 pm and it will last about an hour.

Detailed directions are below.
