It is funny how races fall in and out of favour. This year, only two Wharfedalers travelled to the South Lakes for this very interesting
and challenging run. Both had good performances in their own way, finishing as follows:
20 Mark McGoldrick 1:24:28
116 Kevin Rogan 1:54:19
Long Mynd Valleys - 6 March 2011

Kendal Winter League, Cautley - 6 March 2011
Hannah Newbold
Herbie Davies
It was a very pleasant day for a change for these races and Wharfedale juniors took all the first places. In the senior
race, Chris Newman finished in 4th place and Sam Watson, who is steadily improving since his return from New Zealand, finished in 5th place.
More pictures of the juniors will shortly appear in the gallery.
The positions and times for the juniors were as follows:
The results are now out and reveal a good run for Pete Jackson and a brilliant run for Cathy Bradley. The finishing times and positions were:

Sedbergh Three Peaks - 8 March 2011
Below are the results for this race as sourced by Bolt. Some great Wharfedale results for the juniors.
The clag was down on the tops and quite a few went astray, but everyone got home in one piece.
Continuing our look at the Bofra races at the turn of the century, it is the turn this week to look at the Sharphaw race,
a race that sadly no longer exists.
Kendal Winter League, Cautley - 6 March 2011
Andy Holden's pictures of the day are now available for viewing at:
Last year we highlighted the fact that many of the Wharfedale juniors also ran for their school cross country teams. Logan was one of those,
winning the Wharfedale Schools Cross Country League for year 4 (ages 8-9 years). This year, he has won the title again.
Stan Bradshaw Pendle Round - 12 March 2011
We have only anecdotal information about this race at the moment, but it seems that quite a number of Wharfedalers took part and produced some
good performances. Tamara Hird was first lady and Paul Harlowe was first V60 in 32nd place. Nick Charlesworth was 4th (2nd V40) with Ted Mason
in 6th place. Lynn Whittaker had a good run for her first Category AM race, managing to overtake Bolt in the closing stages.
If team prizes had been allowed, the Wharfedale ladies would have been in the frame, with good performances from Tamara Hird, Judy Howells,
Lynn Whittaker and Val Done.
Firstly, it appears that the results as published by Helm Hill are wrong. The (reliable) word is that Wat Dog (Sam Watson) is once again Top Dog,
finishing as race winner. Second Wharfedaler in 14th place was Luke Appleyard.
Wharfedale also won three junior races outright, putting our juniors in prime positions
to take several of the league prizes. Josh Newbold clocked up another first in the U12s which will be sufficient for him to
take the U12s title. In the U14s, Phil Done has had an outstanding season and his latest win has just added to his unassailable
lead in his class. Ellie Lambert had to settle for 2nd place this week, but it still leaves her in the top league position with maximum
points. In the U17s, the final positions are not yet decided and it will all depend on the last race. The win by Declan Bulmer this week
puts him in third place and a good run next week could see him take the U17s title. If only he had put in a few more appearances,
the title might already be his by now.
This is a point which is often overlooked in a league. It is all about those who turn out, no matter what the weather, and there
has been some rough weather this year. For instance, Hannah Newbold & Zoe Baistow turn out most weekends and they have been rewarded
by at present lying 4th and 6th respectively in the league tables.
The finishing positions for all the Wharfedale juniors were as follows:
U12
1 Josh Newbold 6:49
4 Robert Lambert 7:31
5 Logan Hargreaves-Madhas 7:36
6 Herbie Davies 7:44
13 Adam Gibson 8:01
19 Shona Hastings 8:19 (5th girl)
22 Ellamae Gibson 8:32 (6th girl)
25 Richard Done 8:45
30 Ciaren Crabtree 9:24
U14
1 Phil Done 8:49
3 Lloyd Davies 9:23
4 Callum Lambert 9:35
6 Ellie Lambert 10:17 (2nd girl)
17 Hannah Newbold 12:20 (8th girl)
21 Zoe Baistow 13:16 (12 girl)
U17
1 Declan Bulmer 18:59
2 Sam Hagger 19:08
8 Matthew Horn 20:56
9 David Wilson 21:22
All Our Yesterdays Bofra Kettlewell 2000
In anticipation of the forthcoming Bofra season, we once more look back at the season of 2000.
Wharfedale Presentation & Social Evening - Friday 25 March 2011
As might have been expected, Calder Valley dominated this race, with Ben Mounsey & Gavin Mulholland taking the first two
places respectively with Helen Fines being the first lady.
Nick Charlesworth was the first Wharfedaler home in 4th place. Tamara Hird was 3rd lady who together with Katherine Kirkham and
Angela Donlan secured first ladies team place.
The Wharfedale men's team of Nick Charlesworth, Jason Hemsley & David Kirkham were in third place after Calder Valley & Pudsey & Bramley.
Bedlamites Film Show - Monday 21 March 2011
A bit short notice of this event, but tonight at
The Brown Cow, Keighley , at 6:00 pm, there will be a screening of a film
called "The Bedlamites" and is about night running. It features Ian Holmes and many other familiar faces.
It is not just about night fell running, but also about exploring our beautiful countryside and the community spirit that
goes hand in hand with the sport.
The short trailer will give you a brief insight
of what it is about.
Simon's Seat Owl Event - 23 March 2011
Ted Mason had just set off on a bike ride and learned of this race as he was passing the pub. He cut short his ride and entered the race instead.
He was no doubt glad that he did, as he won it for the third time in a row, knocking over two minutes off his previous fastest time. Caren Crabtree
and Emily Whitehead set off early and were first to the summit. They were soon followed by Ian Holmes and Ted Mason. Ian was leading as they
approached the rocky outcrop of Simon's Seat, but he chose a line which took him over the whole length of the outcrop. This enabled Ted to pass
him by making his ascent to the summit much nearer the trig point. With his legendary descending skills, there was no catching Ted on the return.
After the race, Kevin Rogan donated and presented a new trophy to Nick Charlesworth as best overall runner in the winter series of night events.
This was based on the best eight performances out of the series.
All Our Yesterdays Bofra, Kirkby in Furness - 2000
Some things never seem to change. On Wednesday this week, Ted Mason was flying up and down Simon's Seat and eleven years ago, he was doing
the same at Kirkby in Furness, whilst in the ladies race eleven years ago, Lynn Whittaker was second.
Three Peaks Training Run - Sunday 27 March 2011
A group of Wharfedalers will be meeting up at 11:00 am to run up two of the peaks. Anyone wanting to join them will be
most welcome. Further details, if required, from Bolt.
Simon's Seat Owl Event - 23 March 2011
It is funny how all tracks look the same in the dark. The route was supposed to be up and down to Simon's Seat by the same route.
However, as you will see, Sarah Martin took a bit of a detour on the way back. She will perhaps need to do a bit of recceing before
her wedding day, or it will not be a case of chase the bride, but find the bride.
Midgley Moor 26 March 2011
First brief news from this event. It was won by Karl Grey with a new course record and Helen Fines was first lady.

with Kirsty at khall1@its.jnj.com, but please be quick, as there is little time left to make substitutions.
