Kendal Winter League, Fell End Clouds - 6 February 2011
Gusty wind, driving torrential rain so that it really stung your face and legs. That was the scene that greeted all the runners in these races.
Despite these conditions, there was a good turn out of Wharfedale juniors and they all deserve a medal for taking part. Because of the conditions,
the races were shortened and so no times have been published as they are not comparable with other years. In the senior race, Jonathan Gibson
was first Wharfedaler, just ahead of Scott Baistow. The finishing positions of all our juniors were as follows:

closing date for entry of 18 March. For the even more ambitious, there are the British Cross Country Championships on 12 March.
Just nine years ago and Kate Rogan showed all the other ladies a clean pair of heels in this race. Maybe this report from
yesteryear will trigger other happy memories of that race.
Winter Hill Fell Race - 13 February 2011
Out of all the 200 finishers, it was surprsing that this year, there was not a Wharfedale vest in sight. Pudsey & Bramley
were out in force with 6 finishers in the top twenty and they took the team prize with Rob Hope, being the race winner, closely followed
by Graham Pearce in 2nd place and Danny Hope in 6th place.
Of the local runners, Jayne Butterworth of Skipton was second lady.
Apart from the Kendal Winter League regulars, there was only one Wharfedaler out racing this weekend. This race was won
by James Logue of Calder Valley, ahead of Tom Brunt of Holmfirth and Gavin Mulholland, also of Calder Valley, in third.
It was quite a day for Calder Valley, as Helen Fines had a good run to finish in 18th position overall and 1st lady.
From a Wharfedale perspective, it was good to see Pete Jackson out on the fells again and he finished in 79th position
with a time of just over 4 hours and 10 mminutes.
Kendal Winter League, Fairmile - 13 February 2011

respectively.

Gareth Hird and his girl friend Lionne had the pleasure of welcoming their new son, Freddy Joseph, into the world on Valentine's Day.
Both mum and new son are doing well.
Oxenhope Night Event - 16 February 2011
This week's event was organised by Ian Page and he put on an interesting run which went from Oxenhope up to the Nab and back again by
a circular route which was taken in an anti clockwise direction. This made for a good ascent and a runnable descent. The Lamb was also
a good venue for post run drinks. All in all, a first class evening.
Enthusiasts of off road night running might be interested in this event which is being organised by Paul & Caren Crabtree.
It is a run up and down Pen Y Ghent, starting at 6:00 pm. Meet in the lay-by just before Horton village.
Heptonstall Fell Race Recce - Sunday 6 March 2011
If you want to take part in this race, you may also want to turn up for this recce, which is being put on by the race organisers.
It starts at 9:00 am from the White Lion at Heptonstall. Be careful with parking, the area is marked by signs not yellow lines - best to park at
top of village after the school - or at the Bowling Club (follow P signs). You can leave a bag with warm gear and a towel in the store
room at the pub (no need to go back to the car). There are two groups, the faster group will aim to do full 15 mile loop and a steady
group will do first 8-10 miles with various bail out options through Hardcastle Craggs. There will be free soup and a roaring fire at
the pub at the end (all runners due back before 12.30).
All Our Yesterdays - Bofra 2000
Kate Rogan
Is it really eleven years ago since Kate Rogan moved up into the seniors and was taking everything before her. What were
you doing then? Perhaps this race report from the Cracoe race may remind you.

bit then that’s fine. The 7:15 pm start is at the car park near Cheerful Chilli (where the relays start). Post event drinks will be at
the Bowling Green in Otley. If anyone has any queries, contact Gill Myers on 07768 893568.

Pub Runs 2011
The summertime pub runs used to be compiled in advance, but in more recent times, they have been announced on an ad hoc
basis on the web site. In order to allow members to better plan their social and training activities, it was decided at the
AGM to go back to the system of announcing the full series of pub runs in advance. Barry Scholes volunteered to compile such a list
and he has put together an interesting and varied set of runs which will take place over the coming months in various localities.
The list can be downloaded from the link below and there will be a permanent link on the fixtures web page. As always, these runs are
primarily social occasions and cater for runners of all abilities and we always welcome along runners from other clubs who may wish to
come along for the evening. Post codes for the pubs have been included for those who use Sat Nav and for those runs which do not
actually start at a pub, the grid reference has been included.
Continuing our look at the Bofra Races of the year 2000, we turn our attention this week to Helm Hill where once more Kate Rogan took the honours.
She was really flying that year.
Club Championship 2011
Nick Charlesworth has undertaken to maintain the club championship tables and positions throughout the season. The first edition
