I’ve booked 4 lanes to start with, and reckon that 6 people per lane is about right. Please do let me know if you’ll coming along.
I’ll do some (informal!) pre-allocation of lanes so everyone who let’s me know in time that they’re coming will get to bowl! (…last year quite a
few folk just turned up on the night and there wasn’t enough spaces for everyone to bowl!).If more than 24 people let me know beforehand, I’ll try
and extend our booking to accommodate everyone. But I’ll need to know by Friday 16th April at the latest…please!
Pendle Fell Race - 3 April 2010
Lloyd Davies
James Hall
There was a good turnout of Wharfedalers for this event. Brief details of the juniors. Lucy Horrocks was 1st girl in the
U10s. Lloyd Davies was 2nd in the U12s and James Hall won the U14s by a country mile.
The senior race was won by John Brown in a time of 33:12. Mike Fanning had a cracking run. He was second at the top, but just got caught by Graham
Pearce on the return to finish third. Lauren Jeska of Todmorden also had a good run to finish 24th overall and 1st lady. Jonathan Bradshaw, now
running as a senior, had a good performance to lead the Wharfedale contingent home and finish in 6th place. He was followed by the in form Paul
Crabtree who finished 11th. The positions and times of all the Wharfedalers were as follows. The positions at the summit are in brackets:
6 (7) Jonathan Bradshaw 36:17

Causey Pike - 27 March 2010
A bit of catching up from last week. Five Wharfedalers went to the Lakes for this race. Chris Newman is certainly coming into
form and he showed it in this race by coming 7th against some strong opposition. New member Luke Appelyard finished 47th.
We had enough ladies out on the fells to make up a team and they ran as a team too, splitting local clubs Keswick and
Borrowdale to finish 2nd. A good performance from our girls.
Manx Mountain Marathon - 3 April 2010
Jason Hemsley and Tamara Hird had a good weekend away on the Isle of Man where they took part in the Half Marathon. The race was
won by Lloyd Taggart in a time of 1.37.24, which is a new course record. Jason came 7th in 1.54.01 and Tamara came 19th and 1st lady
in 2.14.36.

21 Gill Myers 2:38:03
22 Kirsty Hall 2:39:53
31 Judy Howells 2:58:38
Calderdale Hike - 10 April 2010
Raj Madhas took part in this event and here is what he had to say about it:
I did the Calderdale Hike on April 10th. Depending on who you believe, its between 36 and 38 miles, but with a few navigational errors,
I possibly added a mile or two, as I was on my own for the most part.
I eventually got round in about 10hrs and 40mins - full results should be available later in the week. It was a blistering hot day and
it was really difficult to keep fluid on board, and the route had several tough climbs. As ever, I hit cramps at about 23 miles, but
managed to hobble through to the finish with the rest of the walking wounded. As ever with these long events, the organisation was
superb and the marshalls were outstanding.
I will try to put a longer account together when I have recovered.
Bunny Run Two - 13 April 2010
Despite being much colder than last week, there was still a good turnout from Wharfedale for the second race in this series. James Hall had
another cracking run to lead all the Wharfedalers home and to improve on last week's time by nearly half a minute. To be fair to all
our youngsters, most completed the course more quickly this week. Will Smith put in a good performance, to finish second Wharfedaler ahead of
Owen Bielby. Ben Johnstone showed his natural love of fell running when he came to the only bit of serious ascent in this race and he passed
a bucket full of runners as he climbed out of the quarry. The finishing times and positions for all Wharfedalers are shown below. Apologies for
missing out Caren Crabtree, but there did not seem to be any trace of her on the provisional finishing sheets.
15 James Hall 16:40
20 Will Smith 17:13
21 Owen Bielby 17:15
28 Ben Johnstone 17:35
36 Paul Crabtree 17:56

72 Phil Done 19:15
73 Josh Newbold
79 David Spencer 19:31

Bunny Run Two - 13 April 2010
Is there something magic about donning a Wharfedale vest or is it just that "a change", to use the in word of the moment, shakes out a
bit of complacency and adds something to performance? Is it just a figment of imagination or have some of the new Wharfedalers actually
improved their performances since joining the club? Val Done, until her recent injury, seemed to be having a new lease of life and since joining
Wharfedale, Paul Crabtree has been going great guns. In the juniors, young James Hall has been putting in some sterling performances and since
joining Wharfedale, Gill Myers too has been performing out of her skin. In Northern Ireland, she was first female V50 by a mile and last Tuesday,
she set a new FV50 record in the above event.
So, is it the new vest or is it just the change? Whatever it it, well done to all the new members, they have certainly added a new dimension to the
club.
Millenium Way Relay - Sunday 13th June 2010
A message from Jason Hemsley
I have entered a Mens team for this race. It consists of 5 legs, in pairs, with an average of 9 miles per leg, starting and finishing in Bingley.
I am open to offers from runners who want to take part, but I am hoping to do well in this event at our first club attempt. £7 entry per runner.
Anyone fancy a steady run on Saturday rather than doing, or trekking up to watch, the 3 peaks? I thought I'd give the crowds a miss and
have a run around Pendle.
Specifically I'm off to have a look around the Pendle Cloughs race route (details under the Races we organise page); between checkpoints 3 to 8
(which looks to be a nice circular'ish route of I would guess about 8 or so miles). If anyone would like to join me for a very steady-to-slow
social run round, that would be great!
I'm thinking of going from Barley around about half 10'ish on Saturday 24th April. If you'd like to join me, just give me a shout on either mobile
0787 233 2020, or catch me at either Weds club run from Grassington or the 10-pin evening on Friday, and we can confirm times/logistcs etc.
Coledale Horseshoe - 17 April 2010
Chris Newman and Kate & Kevin Rogan entered this race, but there is no news yet as to how they fared. Caren Crabtree and Lisa McEvitt did it along
with Cathy Bridger from Todmorden. For them, it was quite an eventful race. Lisa suffered from vertigo on the way up. Having passed checkpoint
two, Cathy did her ankle in and had to helped off by the mountain rescue. When Caren & Lisa got running again, there was no one to follow and they
took a small wrong turn. They were both glad to finish. In spite of all this, Caren is up for doing it again.
Bunny Run Three - 20 April 2010
Another mass turn out from Wharfedale for this unique set of races which pits together young and old.
Unfortunately, time last night did not allow for a proper analysis of the results, but it appears that once
more, Gill Myers is continuing with her new lease of life and would seem to have broken the FV50 record again.
Will Smith improved vastly on his performance of the previous week and may be in contention for the first U14.
He was certainly not far behind first Wharfedaler, Jonathan Bradshaw. Ben Johnstone once more showed his fell
running skills as he made up numerous places on his descent and ascent of the quarry. Special mention should be
made of Ciaren Crabtree. He is only seven and he went down and up the quarry like an old hand. He is certainly
a top runner in the making. It was nice to see Val Done out racing again following her lay off after her injury
in January. She took things reasonably steady, but suffered no ill effects and perhaps this race is her first step
back towards competitive racing.
The finishing times and places for all Wharfedalers are below. Apologies to any that have been missed off,
but there was little time last night to collect the results.
7 Jonathan Bradshaw 16:21
9 Will Smith 16:28 (U14 Record)
17 Owen Bielby 16:57

Three Peaks Fell Race - 24 April 2010
The great procession of runners over these Yorkshire land marks is now over with Morgan Donnelly of
Borrowdale taking the honours ahead of John Brown of Salford. First lady home was Anna Lupton of Radcliffe,
who finished in 22nd place overall.
First Wharfedaler home was Chris Newman in 45th place, closely followed by Kirt Livesey in 48th place. The
third place Wharfedaler was Pete Keron, who actually represented Wharfedale last weekend in the British Open
Wild Water Kayak Race, where he came third. That man is just a phenomenal all round athlete.
Tamara Hird had a great race to finish in 112th place overall and 7th lady, which together with good performances from the rest of our
girls, made them second ladies team.
The positions and times of all the Wharfedalers were as follows:
45 Chris Newman 3:44:12
48 Kirt Livesey 3:44:53
68 Pete Keron 3:48:28

Teenager with Altitude - 24 April 2010
Colin Moses
In complete contrast to the Three Peaks Race, only 75 entries were allowed for this race, which was run in conjunction with
the Anniversary Waltz. In the event, only 57 took part, so there was no mad rush at the start, but it was straight into the race.
Of the fifty seven, two Wharfedalers took part, Andy Hirst and Colin Moses. Their finishing positions and times were:
11 Colin Moses 3:18:33
36 Andy Hirst 3:58:55
Andy Hirst has written a report of the day and is available from the link below.
This will take place from the New Inn at Cononley. Meet at 6:45 pm for the usual 7:00 pm start
Anniversary Waltz - 24 April 2010
Whilst there seems to have a been an urge to follow the hoards to the Three Peaks Race, a few discerning Wharfedalers
went up to the Lakes for this classic.
There were lots of Wharfedale youngsters out in the junior races - sadly too many to mention individually. However, the main points
were that Josh Newbold continued his good form that he enjoyed in the Kendal Winter League, by winning the U10s race. Robbie Johnstone
has always been an ever present in junior races for many years and it was good to see him finish in second place.
In the U14s race, Robbie's brother Ben finished in 2nd place.
The senior race was an outing for the Wharfedale mums and dads, with Tim Done leading the parental group home. Their finishing times and places
were:
131 Juliet Horrocks 2:23:39
140 Tim Done 2:24:59
226 Sue Narey 2:47:41
244 Raj Madhas 2:54:52
254 Ian Newbold 3:02:37
A full report of the day has been written by Tim Done and is available from the link below
Another pleasant evening on Haworth Moor and a another bumper crowd of Wharfedalers for the next in this series of races.
Jonathan Bradshaw was first home, but he was pushed hard by Will Smith. Will beat his time of last week and one assumes that he has once more
set a new record. James Hall had a much better run this week and was looking more like his old self again. Further down the field, Val
Done, for her second race back, was pleased to improve on her time of last week and Lisa McEvitt was pleased to do the same. Caren Crabtree
ran as a Dalek which seemed to slow her down a little.
The finishing times and places for all Wharfedalers were as follows:
5 Jonathan Bradshaw 16:13
6 Will Smith 16:18 (U14 Record?)
9 James Hall 16:40
17 Owen Bielby 16:40
21 Sam Watson 17:33

Wharfedale Harriers Bowling Championships - 23 April 2010
New Champions!
A report from organiser Neil Taylor of the night:
Last Friday night saw a tremendous 35 Harriers and friends descend upon Matrix Super-bowl in Skipton. Taking 6 of the 8 available lanes, we
certainly made an impression ... and not only for Barry’s quite unique bowling style!
Top bowler on the night, and thus bragging rights for the year, went to Paul Wilson. Starting well, the lad just got better as the night went
on and not only achieved highest score of the night (155), but also highest aggregate total (284).
Ladies champion by a mile, and overall championship runner-up, was Pat who by scoring 152 showed Graham that she could teach him a thing
or two about bowling. Caren’s second-game turkey and score of 112 edged her ahead of 3rd lady Jean (99) to take ladies runner-up.
Runner-up in the men’s competition was a very close run thing with Ian (145) just edging ahead of Neil (144). Birthday boy Sam was
clearly holding lots in reserve for the 3-peaks the next day
In the Junior men’s competition Jack (108) needed a last 3 frame flurry of a strike and 2 spares to hold off a strong challenge
from David (88 ... must be his Dad’s coaching!) with Luke settling in to a sound 3rd place (83).
Junior ladies title for the year went to Maria (88…and that was definitely not due to her Dad’s coaching!) with Katie (84) close
behind and just holding off Zoe and Hannah who tied for 3rd place with 83.
A big thanks to everyone who came along and made it such a good night. Plenty of time now for training and practice ahead of next year's
championships!
Bunny Run Four - 27 April 2010
It's the youngsters that won it
The results are now out for his race and Wharfedale were first men's team. Men's team is probably a misnomer. They beat the men from
all the other teams, but the eldest of our "men" was only 17, and our youngest "men" were under 14s. Talk about men against boys.
The winning team were Jonathan Bradshaw, Will Smith and James Hall.
On the night, it looked like Will Smith had set a new U14 record, but it turns out that he also broke the U16 record. So, he now holds both
records, bringing the total number of records held by club members to three, Gill Myers holding the FV50 record.
Dick Hudson's Fell Race - 28 April 2010
Last year, the bikes dominated, taking five of the top ten places. This year, although Steff Macina again won the race on a bike, the
other bikers were more spread out. Second home and first runner was Gavin Chatterton and he was closely followed by U14 junior Will Smith,
maintaining the record breaking form he displayed mid week in the Bunny Runs.
First lady to finish was another record breaker from the Bunny Runs, Gill Myers, who showed a clean pair of heels to, in some cases, much
younger counterparts.
Wharfedale were both first men's and first ladies teams.
