Handicap Training Run - 17 January

A total of 17 runners turned out for this event which was the normal Skipton training run with a staggered start. This made it a bit more serious than normal, but was enjoyed by everyone for a change, except perhaps for Tom Cunningham who took a wrong turning and did not finish the course. Otherwise he felt that he would have won it. The competitive element produced some fairly quick times for the course, bearing in mind that it was the middle of winter on a windy and rainy night. In particular, Jonathan Bradshaw had a good run and was not overshadowed by the senior runners.

The full results were as follows:

Wharfedale Harriers Owl Events 2007

Owl Event 23 January 2007

A cold evening, with very light snow falling, saw 14 runners and 4 bikers leave the Greyhound Pub to brave the elements, the slippy conditions and the darkness in an attempt to reach the summit of Weets and back. As every competitor could pick their own route, the start saw people heading off in literally opposite directions. Despite the conditions, it was a close call between the bikers and the runners, with the honours shared evenly between the first four places. The conditions underfoot were very slippy and one runner was heard to remark that it was the first time that he had gone down a hill slower than he went up. A few of the entrants tumbled more than once, but every one completed the course with nothing worse than injured pride.
