Kendal Winter League - Fairmile 4 February 2007
The usual hardcore of Kendal Winter League devotees once more set off for the Lakes. The placings were fairly predictable, except for the second
time this year, Neil Taylor came home in front of Kevin Rogan. In the ladies race, Kate Rogan came 9th with a time of 39:15. The positions of
the senior men were as follows:
Kendal Winter League - Barbon 11 February 2007
Chris Newman did not travel to the Lakes this weekend, but the rest of the usual group were joined by Ted Mason, Pete Jackson and Carl Bradshaw, whilst junior, Jonathan
Bradshaw went for a run out in the U17 Boys race, where he finished in 6th place. Ted had an outstanding run and led the field home to gain first place.
The rest of the positions were as follows:
Kendal Winter League - Helm Hill 18 February 2007
Following his success last week, Ted Mason decided to have another go in this league, where he was joined by another seven Wharfedale members. He had
another good run, coming 2nd to very good Tom Addison of Helm Hill. Kate Rogan was 3rd lady and Jonathan Bradshaw came 7th in the Under 17 Boys Race.

Beamsley Beacon Owl Event 21 February 2007
It was a beautiful night for this event and the view from the top of Beamsley Beacon was magnificent, with the lights of Addingham, Ilkley,
Otley, Leeds and Harrogate over to the east and Skipton over to the west, sparkling like jewels planted in the landscape. The silence at the top
was broken only by the sound of traffic on the Skipton to Harrogate road and the calling of the grouse. Shortly after the start of the race, the lights
of the runners and cyclists could clearly be seen leaving Addingham and weaving their way across the countryside. Surprisingly, the cyclist chose
the same route as the runners, as it was thought that they may have taken the longer, but faster road route to the bottom of the fell. Mark Horrocks
was leading at the top and the first cyclist, Ian Taylor was in eight place. There was a closely packed group of runners in front of him as he
turned at the top and it looked quite feasable that the would soon make his way past them on the return leg and could be challenging for first place.
However, it was not to be as he lost his front wheel on the descent and crashed, luckily without injury. However, his fellow cyclist,
Graham Pearce, who was in about eleventh place at the summit, quickly made up several places on the descent and finished in third place, just over a minute
behind the winner. One has to think what would have been the position if the cyclists had taken the road back or if Ian had not lost a wheel?
All in all, it was an enjoyable evening and it was nice to see so many runners and cyclists from other clubs for what is at present a fairly unique event. Thanks to all those who took part and to the organisers for helping put on this event. Full results Kendal Winter League - Cautley Spout 26 February 2007
Despite the mixed forecast, it was ideal weather for this event, clear with a cool gentle breeze, but not too cold. The start was delayed for quite sometime
by which time any runners who had warmed up had cooled down again. The ascent was stamina sappingly steep and when most runners gained the ridge
leading to the summit, they were walking with their hands on their thighs. Wharfedale had thee representatives in this event, Kate Rogan, Sam Watson
and Kevin Rogan. The event was won by Tom Addison who, despite the steep ascent, looked very strong heading for the summit. Everyone struggled
with the ascent, but both Sam and Kevin managed to pick up a few places on the descent with Sam finishing in 7th place, Kevin in 27th place
and Kate was 3rd lady. The full results are on the results page. More pictures are in the picture gallery.
Ilkley Moor Race - 26 February 2007
Whilst the enthusiasts of the Kendal Winter League went up to Cautley Spout, seven Wharfedale runners turned up for this event. No report
is available at the moment, but the finishing positions of our runners were as follows:
Training Run Whernside - 28 February 2007
Following the successful training run up Penyghent in the dark, Andy Hirst, Pete Jackson and Glenn Whittaker went for a repeat performance
but this time to the summit of Whernside via Blea Moor. The descent was a bit eventful for Pete who tripped and fell on top of Glenn and then,
instead of wading across the swollen beck, decided to swim.
