The Wrekin Fell Race - Sunday 1 April 2007
Two Wharfedale runners went down for this event, Karl Bradshaw in the Seniors and Jonathan Bradshaw in the Under 16 Boys.
Karl came home in 43rd place with a time of 51:29 and Jonathan had another good run, coming home in 7th place with a time of 14:22.
![]() Pendle Pub/Social Run - Wednesday 4 April
It was a lovely evening for a social training run. The start was delayed slightly, waiting for Sam Watson to arrive and
by the time everyone left Barley, the sun had already disappeared from view. However, when the first runners reached the trig point on the top
of Pendle, they were greeted by a magnificent view and the sight of the sun just setting in the West. Mick Keegan and Sam Watson went the
longer, but more gentle way to the summit, whereas everyone else just made a full frontal assault on the steepest bit. "It is good training
for Robinson in the Anniverary Waltz", explained Neil Taylor.
Bunny Run One - 3 April
The first Bunny Run of the season saw five Wharfedale Runners take part. Jonathan Bradshaw had another good race with a time of 17:35
and was only three seconds from being first U16. This was particularly good when you consider that Jonathan is a better uphill
runner and this was a race run on fairly flat ground. The U14 girls saw a good run out by Emily Throup who came home in a time of 23:24.

The results of the Wharfedale runners were as follows:

Fixture List Arant How, Sedbergh - Saturday 14 April 2007
Jonathan Bradshaw goes from strength to strength and is showing the benefits of his regular training. He is also showing
what a good runner he is becoming on the hills. Although he is only 14, he came third
in the Under 17 boys race. Further details and full results follow as soon as they are available. Another good result Jonathan.
Badger Stone Relay - Saturday 14 April 2007
This event was brought forward from an evening event in June to a Saturday event in April. The reason for the change was that
last year the runners and spectators were plagued by midges. As a result of the change the competitors today enjoyed
very pleasant running conditions with not a midge in sight. The drawback was that it attracted fewer teams this year, but hopefully
it will soon regain its former popularity. Certainly, all the competitors enjoyed the event today and Rombalds Raiders, the winning team
clipped 13 seconds off last year's winning time.

Four Wharfedale runners turned out for this event on what was a bright day, but with a cool wind on the highest peaks. The event was won by Ben Bardsley of Borrowdale in a time of 1:36:30, followed by Alastair Dunn of Helm Hill in a time of 1:38:47. The third place runner was Andrew Schofield in a time of 1:38:47. Mark Horrocks had a good run and came home in 5th place, but surprisingly was not first Vet 40. Angela Mudge was in 7th place with a new ladies record. There was a total of 262 finishers and 4 retirements. Full results are in the results section, including split times at the checkpoints. Full results for Wharfedale runners are as follows:

Full Results Paddy's Pole - 22 April 2007![]() Whilst some members were anticipating the gruelling challenge of the Anniversary Waltz, others decided to go for the (relatively) easier option of Paddy's Pole. Tamara Hird, Own Bielby and Adam Barker made the trip for this race. Tamara was rewarded by coming home in 18th place out of 101 runners, in a time of 37:48 . Own finsihed in 45th place with a time of 31:30 and Adam finished in 274th place with a time of 44:49. Dick Hudsons Race - 25 April 2007Cyclist Wins It
Only three cyclists entered this event, but they proved to be strong competition for the runners, as they all finished in the top ten. The winner, Graham Hodgson, came all the way from Cumbria for this event, but his trip proved worthwhile, beating the first runner by one and a half minutes. Being an unflagged event, the start saw everyone spread out across the moor picking their own favourite way onto the top or following someone else who they thought might know the best route. The cyclists fell behind on the ascent, but soon gained an advantage when they reached the moor top, especially in the dry conditions. The return was the same, with competitors returning by their own favoured routes. The mix made this an interesting event and thanks must go to the organisers, David Hird, Bob Hamilton and Simon Throup, not forgetting Andy Robertshaw, the marshall at Dick Hudsons. There a few pictures in the gallery, but unfortunately on the return leg, the light was not good enough to provide acceptable quality. Hawkshead Trail Race - 28 April 2007Owen Bielby beats Kenyan International
Owen Bielby went up to the Lakes for this event and sent the following report.
A scorching day in Hawkshead saw a large turn out for the first in this year's Lakeland Trails series of events. With runs for all ages and abilities and the Batala band from Liverpool on hand to provide further entertainment, this made for a great day out. I'd entered the 15km trail race which had a strong field, with a number of fell, cross country and road internationals including Andi Jones (who finished 10th in last week's FLM). The race set off at a good pace and the field soon spread out. With me chasing Darren Kay in 10th, everything was going well until just after the 10km mark and the aptly named Coffin Trail (complete with skeletons!). This was certainly the steepest section of the race and true to form, I went up terribly and lost ground on tenth. However, it was all down hill from the top of the Coffin Trail and I slowly reeled in Darren Hilton (Leeds City), who was struggling with the descent, to finish 9th and ahead of the Kenyan International, which I was delighted with. The race was won by Steve Vernon in a new record time and the Ladies race was won by Victoria Wilkinson of Bingley. I can thoroughly recommend the series as a great family day out (we brought the nephew - no exciting news in that area!!) and a nice run through some stunning scenery. Provisional results are in the results section. Three Peaks Race- 29 April 2007
This event was won by Rob Jebb for the second consecutive year with a slightly faster time of two hours, fifty one minutes.
Seven Wharfedale runners entered this event, but on the day, only six took part. Mark Sandamas was our best performer, coming home in 41st
place, with a time of three hours and thirty four minutes. Pete Jackson did not complete the course, dropping out after the second checkpoint
at Ribblehead. Mark Horrocks did not enter, but his wife Juliet did and finished in 376th place in a time of four hours and forty nine minutes.
The places and times for the Wharfedale runners were as follows:
