West Yorkshire Cross Country LeagueNunroyd Park 3 December 2006
In the Senior Women's Race, Tamara Hird came 6th, concluding a very successful season in this league. Sharon Barker also had a fine run today,
coming home in 29th place. Bridget Thompson also had a run out today, coming in 97th. Becky Penty, was the winner of the league
and had three outstanding performances never finishing outside the top two positions.
Only three points separated the next four runners and they had to apply the tie break rules twice to separate them out.
As a result, Tamara ended up in 5th position in the league, although she had the same number of points as the person in 4th.
This was a very competitive group that was way ahead of the rest of the league. Well done to Tamara, who has put in some good performances
in this league.
In the under 11 boys race, Ben Johnstone continued his fine form and came home in 4th place. This left him in a final league place of 7th overall and he can be proud of his achievement in the league this year. If he continues like this, he will certainly be one to watch for the future. 4 December 2006. A Star is Born![]() Those of you who saw the TV show "Adventure Story" tonight witnessed a new TV star in the making. Sadly, it was only on BBC2 in Scotland and featured the Ben Nevis Race. The producers naturally featured Robb Jebb and Ian Holmes, but not to be out done by these stars, our own Sam Watson seemed to instinctively know how to catch the producer's eye. As he approached the summit, he raised his hands at the camera and gave a bit of a shout and lo and behold, he was in the programme. The problem remained as to what else he could do to ensure that he remained in the producer's eye. Most runners went over the line and collapsed. Not our Sam. To be certain of inclusion, you have to add a bit more drama. Collapse before you get to the line. The following stills show this dramatic finish to his race. Surely a performance worthy of an oscar. Despite this, he still finished a creditable 98th out of 400.
Well done Sam, that finish was brilliant

Calderway Relay - 10 December 2006 The team got off to an inauspicious start when Mark Horrocks fell, hit his chest on a rock and winded himself. After that, although
he found it very difficult to run for any perod of time, he managed to keep going in short bursts to make it to the end of the leg.
This left the team in 38th place, behind the 'b' team which finshed the leg in 33rd position. However, thanks to Mark keeping going, at least
the team were still in the race. Leg two saw Andy Black and Steve Barker regain some lost ground to end the leg in 28th place. Sam Watson and Dale Forster
carried on the good work and kept picking off a few teams to gain another seven places and end the leg in 23rd place. Andy Robertshaw and Paul Harlow
then took over and continued to claw their way back up the table to finsh in 21st place, with the 16th fastest time for that leg. The next leg saw
Sam Wadsworth & Bruce Elsworth acheive the 10th fastest time for that leg and this pulled the team back to 19th place. The final leg involved
Owen Beilby and Mark Brown who had a sterling run with the 3rd fastest time for the leg. This resulted in the team ending up in 15th place,
which given where we were at the end of leg one was quite an acheivement.
The good news is that Mark does not appear to have suffered any serious injury and after a rest and getting warmed up again, he felt fine. The times for the teams were as follows:
And for the B team
